Why did you choose your current degree?

I knew all through high school that the subjects I enjoyed the most were English and Drama, so I wanted to keep studying what I loved at university. This translated very easily into a Bachelor of Arts with majors in English Literature and Theatre, but it's definitely not as easy as that for everyone.

My degree choice stems from my experience growing up and also learnings from school regarding the need for more Pacific people within the health sector. I’ve also learned a lot about the significant lack of resources and knowledge about illnesses and the paramount importance of overall wellbeing. My decision is also driven by a profound desire to be a vocal advocate for minorities, specifically within my Pacific community and other marginalized groups. My resolute commitment is to ensure that everyone, irrespective of their wellbeing, has unrestricted access to essential resources and steadfast support. Beyond my aspiration to make a meaningful impact in our community, my ultimate goal is to contribute to a life of happiness, strength, and optimal health for all.

I chose Biomedical Sciences because I am really interested in Human Genetics. I love thinking and studying humans and a good amount of what makes a human is their genes 🧬 it just fascinating, all these tiny microscopic things that work together to make up literally everything 🧫 I intend on becoming a geneticist, understanding the genetic indicators of certain diseases and understanding their cures. But amongst all these reasons, my favourite has to be the application of my advocacy, womens reproductive health, to my studies. The study of Biomedical Science and Human Genetics allows me to understand the "genetics" sciences side of things like birth control and STDs and the "human" behavioural side of these topics, the socio-economics surrounding the sciences.
